The Sinking of the Ventnor
The remarkable story of the SS Ventnor which foundered off Hokianga in 1902.
On board were 499 coffins containing bodies of Chinese destined for their ancestral villages.
Wong Liu Shueng shows her film and tells the very moving story of the wreck, the loss of lives, and how local Maori gave the Chinese coffins a fitting burial. 100 years after the disaster renewed interest in these graves have brought the Chinese and Maori communities closer together.
